MHU’s Ramsey Center to Close for Summer Renovations

The Liston B. Ramsey Center for Regional Studies at Mars Hill University will be closed for renovations over the summer months. During this period, the holdings and collections in the Ramsey Center and in the Southern Appalachian Archives will be available to the public by appointment only.

According to Dr. Karen Paar, Director of the Ramsey Center, planned renovations will double storage space for collections in the archives, increase security for holdings, allow for additional content in the exhibition areas, create additional staff office space, and streamline public service procedures.

“The Ramsey Center takes very seriously its commitment to be a secure and accessible repository for the historic archives and information of the region,” Paar said. “The renovations planned for this summer will enable us to serve the public in an even better and more efficient way.”

The Ramsey Center will host a grand reopening on September 10, with an exhibition featuring the photographs of William Barnhill, a major Appalachian photographer whose work focused on the mid-to late-1910s.
