MHU Theatre Arts Department has cancelled Performances of Ruthless! The Musical
Due to illness of a cast member, the performances of “Ruthless! The Musical” by the Mars Hill University theatre arts department, scheduled for April 27-30, 2017, have been canceled. The department plans to restage the musical during the fall 2017 semester. Ticket holders may contact the Owen Theatre box office at (828) 689-1239 for refund information.
“Ruthless!” was written by Joel Paley and Marvin Lard. It is a camp cult classic in which the beautiful and talented 8-year-old Tina Denmark will do anything to play the lead in her school play. The show famously spoofs Broadway musicals as well as iconic films, including “The Bad Seed” and “All About Eve.” “Ruthless!” is described as a roller coaster ride through the world of Broadway, child actors, stage mothers, parenthood, fame, and unbridled ambition.
The Mars Hill production is directed by Jessica West, with musical direction by Joel Rogers. Both are professors in the university’s theatre arts department.
Performance times for “Ruthless! The Musical” are 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 27, through Saturday, April 29; and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 30. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and non-Mars Hill University students (MHU students are admitted free). The show is not recommended for children under age 12. For reservations or more information, contact the Owen Theatre box office at (828) 689-1239. The box office is located inside Day Hall, adjacent to Owen Theatre.
