Ten “Bright Spot” Counties Where Health is Better than Expected, Suggest Practical Lessons for Other Communities
Madison County is one of ten “Bright Spot” counties featured in a report released in July 2018 by the Appalachian Regional Commission, the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation, and the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky.
Madison County was among those identified as having key health outcomes that are better than expected in comparison to other counties in the ARC region. The Madison County case study begins on page 111 (PDF page 125) of the publication.
Many factors contribute to the health of a community, and while the case study does not point to any silver bullet solution, multiple references are made to the resiliency of our county as well as the strong collaboration that exists among nonprofits, churches, government agencies, and health care providers to serve those in need.
