The Area Agency on Aging at Land of Sky Regional Council is proud to announce two new appointees to the North Carolina Senior Tar Heel Legislature (STHL), Madison County residents Jan Lounsbury, Delegate, and Sherrye Perry, Alternate. Both were sworn in at the recent state meeting June 12-13 in Chapel Hill.
Land of Sky Regional Council is proud to have Jan and Sherrye represent our region at STHL meetings. Area Agency on Aging Director LeeAnne Tucker stated, “The Senior Tar Heel Legislators make the voices on the county level heard in Raleigh. I encourage all our Senior Tar Heel Legislators to dig into issues that they or a member of the community feels to be significant and develop pertinent resolutions concerning the needs of older adults in Western North Carolina.”
The North Carolina Senior Tar Heel Legislature is a group of senior volunteers whose purpose is to bring legislative attention to matters that impact the senior adult population. They provide information to senior citizens on the legislative process and matters under consideration by the North Carolina General Assembly. Every county in North Carolina is represented by one Delegate and one Alternate to the STHL. The STHL meets three times a year in March, June, and October, usually in the Raleigh area, to study issues, hear from key resource persons and state officials, and develop recommendations to present to the North Carolina General Assembly for its consideration.
