Registered nurses interested in adding the bachelor of science in nursing to their credentials are invited to a drop-in open house for Mars Hill University’s Judge-McRae School of Nursing. The event will happen from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at MHU’s Asheville Center for Adult and Graduate Studies on Airport Road in Arden.

The open house will give prospective students an opportunity to learn more about Mars Hill’s accredited Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (R.N. to B.S.N.) program. Students and faculty from the Judge-McRae School of Nursing will share information, and financial aid representatives will be available to answer questions about scholarships and other tuition assistance options. Nurses who attend may bring their college transcripts for preliminary review, and application fees will be waived for open house attendees.

Mars Hill University received a federal Nursing Workforce Diversity grant which provides financial and other assistance, making this an opportune time for registered nurses from backgrounds that are underrepresented among the current nursing workforce to explore additional education. The grant gives Mars Hill an opportunity to increase the number of nursing graduates who are diverse, representative of their communities, and skilled in serving disadvantaged communities with cultural sensitivity and compassionate care.

The university also is part of a new agreement which streamlines the process for R.N.s who earned their associate’s degree from a North Carolina community college and wish to pursue their bachelor’s degree. That agreement provides a path for those students to pursue the B.S.N. without having to duplicate general education and prerequisite nursing courses.

Depending on academic credits earned in the associate degree, students may complete the R.N. to B.S.N. program in as little as one year. Mars Hill’s program is the only seated (classes are offered in-person, rather than strictly online) R.N. to B.S.N. in Western North Carolina. Classes meet one evening per week at the Asheville Center for Adult and Graduate Studies at 303B Airport Road, Arden.
