Effective Friday, May 8 at 5pm, Madison County aligns its guidance with the NC EO 138.
Madison County government and public health and safety officials are not recommending short-term rentals at this time. This action is consistent with actions taken by other communities across the state and nation to stem the spread of the COVID-19 virus due to human travel.
We recognize the potential need to allow the use of hotels and other facilities for emergency service workers, essential service works, displaced residents needing shelter, traveler safety, and other response and mitigation efforts related to COVID-19 in the coming days and weeks. However, with a Stay-at-Home order still in place until May 22, 2020, short-term rentals for non-essential purposes are not recommended.
We realize that this places a burden on the hotel accommodation and short-term rental sector of our economy and do not makes such recommendations lightly, but if left unchecked it increases the potential for infection in our community.
For those securing short-term rentals, to help reduce the risk of spreading the virus, please adhere to the following guidance:
1. Screen potential customers for the COVID-19 virus prior to arrival.
• Have you returned from out of the county within the last 14 days?
• Have you had contact with anyone with confirmed COVID-19 in the last 14 days?
• Have you had any of these symptoms in the last 14 days: fever greater than 100, difficulty breathing or cough?
• Are you currently experiencing fever over 100, difficulty breathing?
2. Do not rent to anyone who has answered YES to the above questions.
3. Follow CDC guidelines for Cleaning and Disinfecting all units before each rental
4. Launder all bedding, comforters and towels, etc. after each rental.
5. Allow 24 hours between rentals to allow ample time to air our and clean property.
Compliance with the above recommendations and guidance is for the health and safety of all residents and guests of Madison County.
