The Foster Grandparent Program is currently recruiting volunteers in Madison and Transylvania Counties.
Foster Grandparents are age 55 and over who thrive on direct interaction with children and believe they can make a difference in their lives. They serve as mentors, tutors, and loving caregivers to children with special needs in local elementary schools, Head Start Programs, and child care centers. They help children learn to read, provide one-on-one tutoring, and guide children at a critical time in their lives. Foster Grandparents give the comfort and love that sets a child on the path towards a successful future.
To qualify for FGP volunteers must be at least 55 years of age or older, live on a limited income, able to serve between 15 – 40 hours a week working closely with children. Foster Grandparents receive an hourly tax-free stipend for serving as well as mileage reimbursement, paid leave and holidays, secondary insurance coverage while volunteering, recognition for volunteering, and more!
